How to remove timestamps from a transcript
- Add your transcript. Paste the text, or tap Open file to load a .txt, .srt, .vtt or .sbv file. On a computer you can also drop the file onto the box.
- Choose what to remove. Timestamps, cue numbers, sound tags such as [Music] and repeated caption lines go by default. Speaker names and filler words are optional.
- Copy or download the clean text. The result updates as you type. Copy it or save it as a .txt file.
Transcript formats it understands
| Source | What the timestamps look like | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube transcript (copied) | 0:05 on its own line | Caption lines joined into paragraphs |
| YouTube captions (.vtt, .sbv) | 00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:07.000 and repeated lines | Duplicates removed, readable text |
| Zoom (.vtt) | Cue numbers, time ranges, Name: text | One paragraph per speaker turn |
| Microsoft Teams (.vtt) | <v Name> voice tags | Name: text paragraphs |
| Otter, Rev, Descript (.txt) | Speaker 1 0:05 or Speaker 1 (00:05): | Speaker 1: text paragraphs |
| Subtitles (.srt) | 1 then 00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,500 | Plain text |
| Notes and documents | [00:01:23] or (1:23) | Stamps removed, text kept in place |
Times inside sentences, such as "we met at 10:30", are left alone. The tool only removes timestamps in the positions transcripts put them: on their own line, in brackets, at the start of a line or after a speaker name.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove timestamps from a YouTube transcript?
Open the video on a computer, expand the description and click Show transcript. Select the transcript text, copy it and paste it into the box above. The tool deletes the time lines such as 0:05 and joins the caption lines into paragraphs. If you downloaded the captions as an .srt, .vtt or .sbv file, open that file instead.
How do I remove timestamps from a Zoom transcript?
Zoom saves cloud recording transcripts as a .vtt file. Open that file here or paste its contents. Cue numbers and time ranges are removed, lines from the same speaker are joined, and speaker names stay unless you tick Remove speaker names.
Can I remove timestamps in Microsoft Word instead?
Yes, with wildcards. Open Advanced Find and Replace, click More and tick Use wildcards. To delete stamps like [00:01:23], find \[[0-9:.]@\] and replace with nothing. For bare stamps, find [0-9]{1,2}:[0-9]{2}:[0-9]{2} first, then [0-9]{1,2}:[0-9]{2}. Word will not remove SRT cue numbers or join broken caption lines, which this tool does for you.
Is my transcript uploaded anywhere?
No. The cleaning runs in your browser, so your text and files never reach our servers. Once the page has loaded, it keeps working even if you go offline. We count anonymous usage, such as that a transcript was cleaned or copied, but never the text itself.
Does it keep speaker names?
Yes, by default. It recognizes "Name:" labels, Microsoft Teams voice tags, and Otter, Rev and Descript-style headers such as "Speaker 1 0:05" and "Speaker 1 (00:05):". Tick Remove speaker names if you only want the spoken words.
Can it remove "um" and "uh"?
Yes. Tick Remove filler words to delete um, uh, uhm and erm. Words like "like" and "you know" are left alone because they often carry meaning, so review quotes before you publish them.
How do I convert an SRT file to plain text?
Tap Open file and pick the .srt file. The tool removes the cue numbers and time ranges, merges the captions into sentences and gives you plain text to copy or download as a .txt file.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. It works in Safari, Chrome and other mobile browsers. Tap Open file to pick a transcript from your phone, or paste text you copied from another app.
